On Saturday, May 31st, the first round of the 2014 Presidents’ Cup was played at Grand Marais Golf Course. Team Springfield, the 2013 winner, took an early lead over Team Lindsey. After four matches the score is 10 points vs. 2 points. With two more rounds to be played, there are still many points to be earned.

POB Members,
Last Saturday, we had 10 members out at Grand Marais. Jim Pinkston shot 78 !
This weekend we have the usual 10:00 a.m. tee time. The weather is suppose to cool off, but maybe we will still have some who want to play.
The following weekend, we have a club meeting on Saturday, March 29th, at 8:30 a.m., at Grand Marais. Weather permitting, we will play a modified shamble starting at 10:00 a.m. Rules will be explained to those participating.

POB Members,
The weather continues to swing back and forth. Beautiful yesterday, back to cold today. But it is supposed to be better on Saturday with a high of 60 degrees!
As I understand it, Grand Marais officially reopens Saturday. We have our usual tee time of 10:00 a.m. Don’t be late! Get there and be ready to start at 9:45 a.m.
A thank you to Lawrence Netterville. He has updated our website. If you haven’t visited it in a while, check us out at http://www.parorbetter.org/ .
I am postponing the next meeting until March 29th, 8:30 a.m. We will also play a sort of Shamble that day. More details later.
At that meeting, I will present requirements for competing in the Two-Man Scramble and the Club Championship. The requirements will be a specific number of rounds and a consistent tee choice for those with the forward option. We will also have to discuss the Scratch Championship.
Membership dues are $200 again this year. You may pay it all at once or make installments. The total must be paid by May 15th.

POB Members,
Our handicap season officially started on March 1st. So hang on to all of the scorecards and turn them in to Ron Cross!
This weekend, March 8 & 9, we are at Grand Marais, 10 a.m. tee time. However, in case you haven’t heard, this weekend is the change to Daylight Savings Time. Don’t forget to set you clocks forward one hour on Sunday.
I have a prior commitment and won’t be there this weekend.
At our last meeting, the members voted to collect $3.00 each round to be placed in the Scholarship Fund. This is in place of the Trophy Fund. If you participate in the Skins pot, you contribute $10.00 total. Any rabbit money not won, goes to the Scholarship Fund. So, whoever takes up the money this weekend, begin collecting either $10 or $3 from members. Guests can get in the Skins game for $7, but we will gladly accept their donation to the Scholarship Fund if they are feeling charitable.
I have attached the proposed Schedule of Events presented at the last meeting. Please look it over and think of other courses or other games you would like to play.
Our next club meeting is in two weeks on Saturday, March 22nd. I hope to have a breakfast set up at Grand Marais for 8:00 a.m. Watch for further information.

Members,
I don’t know if the members who went to Florida are back yet. Maybe we will hear about the trip from one or more of them.
Lawrence met with Pin High again. Looks like the Junior Tournament will stay in August.
I heard from Jim Pinkston and Charlie Johnson this past weekend. They were looking for someone to play golf with. (I, unfortunately had a prior commitment). Apparently Joe Bayne showed up at Grand Marais on Saturday. I hope they got a round in.
Speaking of Grand Marais – Charlie told me he ran into Mychal, the pro at GM, at the Golf Expo. The word is GM will reopen both the course and restaurant on March 15th. Mychal, Willie, and Bobby Tidwell will be involved.
The current forecast for this coming weekend (March 1 & 2) is for a chance of snow. Hang on. Spring is coming!
Next club meeting is on March 22nd, 8:30 a.m., at Grand Marais.
Weather permitting, we will play a Shamble on March 29th. On your line, you choose the best tee shot. Everyone plays their own ball from there. Individual play at half you half of your handicap strokes (although you may choose to share winnings with you line).

POB Members,
At our meeting on February 15th, the seven members present approved a budget for 2014 with a split vote. After 3 hours of discussion at the January meeting and another 2 hours at this meeting, we had to bring the process to a conclusion. I am grateful and respectful of those members who attended and contributed to the decision. However, since many thoughts have been expressed over the past year and since all members will be affected, I wish more members had been in attendance.
I have attached a copy of the adopted budget.
Highlights:
1. Member dues for 2014 are $200, payable in full by May 15th. ( In a separate vote, not part of the budget, members approved dues of $125 for new members who join before June 1, 2014).
2. The $1.00 per round which was collected for the trophy fund will now be $3.00 per round and will be designated for the Scholarship Fund. The skin & rabbit pot will remain at $7.00. Members are expected to make the $3.00 donation whether they participate in the skin pot or not. Guests are not required to make the $3.00 donation to the Scholarship Fund, but will be invited to donate.
3. Members may attend the Club Picnic and Christmas Party at no charge. All guests will be at $15.00 each, payable by member or guest.
4. We have budgeted $1000 for Scholarships. That amount may be adjusted upward based upon weekly contributions to the fund or additional donations. A minimum of $1000 will be used from club funds.
5. The ATT Messaging System ( the “box”) is being discontinued. We are exploring using Magic Jack. Weekly reminders will be sent via e-mail. For those not using e-mail, we suggest they call another member for information.. You may always Rick Kreitner at 314-974-5350.
6. We will be purchasing shirts and caps this year.
The next club meeting is set for March 22, 2014, at 8:30 a.m.. The location is to be determined.
As of this past Saturday, Fletcher Springfield reported Grand Marais is still closed. If the weather improves and that course is still closed, I will look into a tee time at another course for a Saturday or Sunday. Our intent is that Grand Marais will still be our home course when it reopens.
