Dateline: Sunday May 16, 2010, Grand Marais Golf Course, Centreville Illinois:
The final round of a grueling five week seeded single elimenation “Beat Down” Match Play Tournament ended in a climatic victory for Terry Broadway. Mr. Broadway emerged as champion after having endured five weeks of intense competition on five different golf courses. The final round was the essence of intense competition. Mr. Broadway’s opponent in the final round was three time Club Champion Alfred Lindsey, a great golfer and a tenacious competitor. Both players made some outstanding shots; however, the shot of the match came on the new 13th hole at Grand Marais Golf Course. After having pulled is tee shot through the left of the fairway Mr Broadway found himself in a precarious position, 145 yards from the pin on the high side of the fairway hitting into the short side of the hump back green that sloped downward away from his position, with the pin placed at the top of the green. Mr. Broadway hit a towering pitching wedge shot that hit the edge of the green, bounced twice then stopped 8 feet above the hole to the right of the pin. Mr. Broadway then trickled a curling putt in for birdie. After 18 holes of play, in which both players had played extremely well, the match was all square. In the sudden death playoff on the 140 yard Par 3 second hole at Grand Marais Golf Course, Mr Broadway stuck a shot 5 feet from the pin, he then curled in the birdie putt for the victory.
